MCNA partner CIAM welcomes the Ivors Academy to its global family of creator alliances

MCNA’s international partner, the International Council of Music Creators, has welcomed the Ivors Academy of Music Creators as CIAM Observers. Aligned with the goals of CIAM, the new connection with the Ivors Academy allows music creators in the U.K. and globally to collaborate on vital issues, share important information, and increase the effectiveness of campaigns regionally and globally.

Formerly known as the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), the Ivors Academy is one of Europe’s largest professional associations for music writers. Founded in 1944, the academy represents approximately 2,000 members across all music genres.

CIAM is the International Council of Music Creators, representing the interests and aspirations of over 500,000 music creators on five continents, in partnership with music creator alliances in Asia (APMA), Africa (PACSA), Europe (ECSA), Latin and South America (ALCAM), and North America (MCNA).

“On behalf of The Ivors Academy we are honoured to join the CIAM community and strengthen the voice of composers and songwriters across the world,” said Crispin Hunt, Chair of the Ivors Academy. “CIAM plays a vital role, bringing creators together to share knowledge, gain inspiration and take action. As the globalisation and digitisation of our industry increases, it is more important than ever that we unify around a global message. With the UK having left the European Union, it is also vital that the voice of UK composers and songwriters is heard. We are immensely proud to join with CIAM to join forces and help shape the future of our industry for the better.”

CIAM and MCNA President Eddie Schwartz welcomed the academy. “No region of the world has contributed more to our magnificent and diverse musical tapestry than the United Kingdom, and no organization has worked harder for the cause of those of us who create music than the Ivors Academy. I have long counted myself among the Ivors many admirers, and I couldn’t be more excited to now strengthen the bonds between the Ivors and CIAM. I strongly believe our increased partnership will benefit music creators everywhere.”
